Armed officers and several police vehicles were involved in the arrest at a farm in Hallington, near Louth.

Two officers in high-vis jackets escorted him into a police van around the back of a farm building.

Police Report

Police said both victims had suffered multiple stab wounds at an “absolutely devastating and dramatic scene” in the Louth house.

A knife believed to have been used to inflict the injuries was recovered, DCS Andy Cox said.

He said no one else was injured at the property where the stabbing happened, but another young child was found there.

“We understand there is speculation that was a child was abducted.

“This was not the case and the child has been safeguarded,” Mr Cox added.

Shane Marshall, 18, and his partner Niamh Ismay, 17, who live two doors down from where the double stabbing happened, told the PA news agency they saw armed police and canine units arrive on Bank Holiday Monday.

Mr Marshall said: “Police said they couldn’t tell us much but they said ‘as you can see, it’s very, very serious.”

Floral tributes have since been laid outside the property.

An air ambulance and several police vehicles could also be seen in the Hubbard’s Hill area, where the police officer was injured.

Mr Cox said in a statement that the cop suffered “minor injuries.”

He added that he believed the officer who tackled the suspect just happened to identify him.
