French rider Cherpin has passed five days later crashing through the Dakar rally’s first stage, organisers said on Friday.
He was 52 years old.

The Frenchman, 52, crashed 178 km into Sunday’s seventh point. After being discovered unconscious, he had been rushed to hospital at Sakaka for operation before being put in an induced coma.
He subsequently moved into the hospital at Jeddah before their trip back to France, but he passed away on Thursday before returning into his homeland.
“Throughout his move from a clinical aeroplane from Jeddah into France, Pierre Cherpin died from the harms brought on by his collapse during the first point from Ha’il into Sakaka,” read an announcement in the episode published on Friday morning.
“The motorist crashed at kilometres 178, approximately 1:00 pm. Doctors discovered him unconscious once they touched him. Taken to Sakaka’s hospital, the hospital medical record demonstrated a serious head injury with loss of awareness.
“Urgently worked in neurosurgery, he’d then stored in an induced coma, his state has remained steady over a previous couple of days.
“He airlifted out of Sakaka into Jeddah’s hospital in where he was likely to be moved to Lille’s hospital.”
Cherpin was still competing in his fourth Dakar and his first because 2015, riding a Husqvarna at first by Motul’ group for cyclists running without outside aid.
